Over the last few months, I have had a number of people ask me about my workout routine. There isn't anything I do that is "new" or revolutionary, but what I do on a regular basis just works for me. With that in mind, I decided to share some of the things I do to keep myself in the best shape possible.

If you have ever competed in a long race, or plan on running one (cough upcoming NJ Ultra Beast), you may be asking yourself if you should try a hydration pack... and which one is the right one. While your personal requirements for one may vary, there are plenty of options to suit just about any need. Personally, I have yet to NEED one while running, but there have been plenty of times when I wished I had one. Having seen folks running various race distances with hydration packs, I set out on a mission to find the best options, enter the Geigerrig Tactical Rigger.

Wearing hydration pack during an OCR is not something that many consider mandatory, unless you running your Beasts, Ultra Beasts, BFX’s or Burning Hot Race Days. However, using one could be the difference between finishing a race, or being Medically DNF’d (Did Not Finish). There are plenty of choices on the market but the version I decided to move forward with, and use regularly, is the CamelBak Baja LR.

We all know the big players of OCR, but as we look to challenge ourselves more and more, sometimes we need to look at things a little differently. Green Beret Challenge (GBC) is one of those takes, a Veteran Owned-Race Series that will hit Georgia, Pennsylvania and Texas this year; offering a different take on how we view Obstacle Course Racing. Mark Ballas was kind enough to take some time to talk about this great race and the areas it takes on. In addition they partner with a charitable organization in the area they hold an event in. For example in Texas, GBC has partnered with Sean Valigura to support the Chris Kyle Memorial Run, currently held at the Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose Texas each fall.

As the sun rose over the southern California Mountains on a chilly January morning, the excitement for the first ever west coast Battle Frog event was as tingling as the cold wind going up everyone’s shirts. It was clear from the get go that Ryan Atkins’ first event as RD was going to be a difficult one. Taking the mic at the start of the elite wave the unBFeated champ went over his rules of the course and introduced us to a some new obstacles.

OCRAddict is petitioning the folks over at Spartan to introduce a Spartan Ultra Beast to Texas. While there is interest from Joe and the powers to be, they want to know that there is interest from the racers. Sign the petition to let the Spartan World know that Texas means business.

Some of you may have already heard, the folks over at Spartan have decided to get a buzz going. They have finally listened to the huddled masses of people clamoring for Spartan to introduce a new wave of racers and a new wave of heats to their very popular Spartan Race. Spartan officially announced yesterday that they would be introducing a "Competitive Wave" to their catalog of race heats for those that are somewhere between Elite and Open.

While there has been much buzz around the new Spartan DELTA, many seem to be confused about what it actually takes to complete the mysterious device. We all know it looks cool, we all know that we want one, but not many of us know exactly what is involved.

This training plan is the one I developed and used for the Killington Ultra Beast. I raced all year and really wanted to make my way up to Killington to tackle the founder's race with authority.
