South Carolina Beast 2015 Review

There is nothing like getting all beast mode on an obstacle course. And of course, what could be better than getting beast mode on a Spartan Beast. Spartan Races have become the most popular and widely recognized OCR. With that, the Spartan teams have to do more and more each year to improve the events, the turnout, and keep the OCR faithful coming. South Carolina is the state, Carolina Adventure World is the venue, and a Spartan Beast is the challenge. The final Beasts of the year. Challenge Accepted.

MapMyRun Review

If you didn't know, not only am I an OCRADDICT, but I am a geek as well (really kind of an Uber Geek). Having said that, I look for metrics and analytics on just about everything I do and work with. While training for the next event, many of us are looking for a way to tack our activity and improve our training but don't have an unlimited budget for things like GPS watches and dedicated activity trackers. Although those gadgets are great training tools, many of us don't need look much farther than our cell phones. Enter MapMyRun.

Legends Battle Cry Fall 2015 Race Review

Whenever I get the chance, I always like to race local. It gives you a chance to see if there is some creativity brewing; as well as seeing a lot of first timers catch the OCR bug. From those not familiar with Houston, Legends is a very successful athletic/training facility featuring a full array of training options for it members. Many professional athletes have made their way through Legends and their staff has always been pleasant to deal with. For me, I typically use Legend’s Batting Cages and tunnels to work on my Baseball Fundamentals, when it s not OCR training time. I didn’t know this until after the race, but they have also been running an OCR boot camp for a few months and their Race Director, Garrick, is a Spartan and BattleFrog participant.

Under Armour Resistor Low-Cut Socks Review

There is one article of clothing that typically gets overlooked by new obstacle course racers. Unfortunately, the socks you wear don't get as much attention as the gloves you choose for a race. But, when you think about it, gloves spend a fraction of the time touching anything on the coarse; while socks and shoes are active almost 100% of the time.

BattleFrog Austin Fall 2015 Race Review

BattleFrog, this season, seems to be the most talked about/controversial race series of the larger series (BattleFrog, Spartan, TM, Warrior Dash and Savage). They gone have from 5 and 15k course with BFX, to a singular 8k loop for a 1 lap, 16k Competitive/Elite and an all you can take Open BFX. They have also seen some turnover and, while this has been a major highlight, when you look at business norms they are right in line. The OCR community is just a big family, so these changes seem to hit harder. Their focus seems to be on the customer/racer experience. As long as it does, things should work out for the Frog.

Chris Kyle Memorial Run

On Saturday, October 31st and November 1st racers from across the nation will descend upon the small town of Glen Rose just southwest of Ft. Worth to participate in one of Spartan Race’s most challenging races, the Reebok Spartan Beast. This race boasts being an aggressive 12+ mile course with over 30+ obstacles and will held at Rough Creek Lodge. Many will recall that this is the exact same property where Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield were shot and killed while trying to help a former Marine suffering from severe PTSD in February of 2013. This will be the fourth year the race will be held at Rough Creek Lodge and will be the second time Spartan Racers with help from the Lone Star Spartans will be running in honor of Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Christopher Scott Kyle. The name of Chris Kyle is immediately recognizable from the bestselling autobiography and record setting movie “American Sniper”. But, those closest to him associate the household name with being an avid outdoorsman, a skilled marksman, a SEAL (Sea Air, and Land), devoted father and most importantly an American Hero and Patriot.
