This OCRAddict’s Gear List for the Greek Peak Winter Sprint

Unless you haven’t been on social media lately, there is little chance you haven’t heard about the upcoming (tomorrow) Greek Peak Winter Sprint. This race will be the first of its kind for Spartan in the US. However, what that means is that many will be ill prepared for the race and it is up to a bunch of us to beta test this race and our gear list. With plenty of research in the bag, I think I have nailed the gear… but I guess we will find out tomorrow.

With the race right around the corner, the decision to take part just a day or so ago, and an advisory email by Spartan; I was pressed to get gear quickly. Luckily for me, there are two REI locations within a two-hour drive for me. I hopped in my car, headed out, and dropped my credit card on the counter with a statement “keep me warm”.

Hello Brave Spartans,

You have shown yourself to be part of an elite group willing to tackle the first ever US Spartan Winter Race.

With such a unique race comes some unique challenges. So make sure to read on to ensure you are fully prepared for this event.

Layers, Layers, Layers! We cannot stress it enough. Right now we are expecting lows in the 20’s to start the day off and it likely will not get much warmer. While the weather can change greatly over the next few days, you should plan on a cold day. For this race we suggest:

  • Wicking base layers
  • Long sleeve shirt
  • Running tights
  • Long Wool socks
  • Gloves
  • Beanies
  • Neck Warmer

Your Normal Spartan Race shoes will work great for this event. However, please note: no plastic spikes, metal spikes or studs are allowed. This would include things like baseball or football cleats, track shoes with studs, etc. However shoes like the Reebok All-Terrain series are allowed.

Without further ado, here is this OCRAddict’s gear list for the Greek Peak Winter Sprint. Everything below was on sale… except the shoes

First Layers:

Underwear… no really. I love wearing it. In fact, I love it so much that I wear it almost every day. Alright, all kidding aside…

Jacket:

Socks:

Gloves:

Face & Head:

  • REI Co-op Windbloc Fleece Balaclava
  • Spartan Nit beanie (gotta represent a lil)

Shoes:

  • Saucony Peregrine ICE+

Not having run in conditions like this before, there was little for me to go on. What is on your list? Let us know in the comments below.
