Recently, I had the pleasure of chatting with David Mainprize of Conquer the Gauntlet about his take on OCR. Conquer the Gauntlet recently announced a Pro Team with lots of familiar faces, including Christina Armstrong “Honey Badger/HB” of Death Race and TPK Endurance notoriety, Matt “The Mudder” Willis of the NBC Spartan Show, and Brenna “The Red Beast” Calvert of Broken Skull Challenge. I have the privilege of knowing these three, so when they attached their names to this series it made me take notice as a race I should be looking at, and I will at their Dallas Event on May 14th. This is an event that, by the way, is going to have some huge names not attached to the series participating. #EFFNorm hint hint among others.

It seems like the Valentine bug is biting on the arm of some popular OCR race organizers. My inbox, today, has already seen a couple of email blasts offering up various deals for those that want to cross the finish line holding their significant other's hand while crossing the finish line. After all, nothing beats playing in the mud with your better half.

We all know the big players of OCR, but as we look to challenge ourselves more and more, sometimes we need to look at things a little differently. Green Beret Challenge (GBC) is one of those takes, a Veteran Owned-Race Series that will hit Georgia, Pennsylvania and Texas this year; offering a different take on how we view Obstacle Course Racing. Mark Ballas was kind enough to take some time to talk about this great race and the areas it takes on. In addition they partner with a charitable organization in the area they hold an event in. For example in Texas, GBC has partnered with Sean Valigura to support the Chris Kyle Memorial Run, currently held at the Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose Texas each fall.

Tough Mudder has released some new obstacles as well as updated some of the favs of the past for 2016. This isn't the first time in recent years that Tough Mudder has stepped up to the plate with confidence and pointed towards the bleachers... they did this in 2015 as well.

For those of you that are a fan of the Tough Mudder series of races, TM has a new category of race. Their intentions are clear, they want to get those of you that don't think you are ready for a 10-12 mile race an opportunity to see what the TM series is all about. This series of race sports many of the same obstacles, the same awesome race swag, and the satisfaction of knowing that you accomplished something you may have not thought possible.

Some of you may have already heard, the folks over at Spartan have decided to get a buzz going. They have finally listened to the huddled masses of people clamoring for Spartan to introduce a new wave of racers and a new wave of heats to their very popular Spartan Race. Spartan officially announced yesterday that they would be introducing a "Competitive Wave" to their catalog of race heats for those that are somewhere between Elite and Open.
