King Of The Swingers

As exhilarating as it is downright fun, King of the Swingers, on course at select events, requires Mudders to leap off a ledge and reach for a rope swing dangling above a pit of muddy water. Once airborne, Mudders must stay focused and hold on long enough to reach for a hanging bell. Hit or miss, it’s still a rush…and an obstacle you won’t find anywhere else.

Obstacle History

New on the scene in 2015 and Revamped, King of the Swingers is Tough Mudder’s big follow-up to Walk the Plank. When first introduced in 2011, WTP challenged acrophobics and brought cliff jumping to the masses. Simultaneously exhilarating, joyous and terrifying, this obstacle is always a site of moral support and encouragement. In an effort to turn up the intensity, King of the Swingers was created to add an awesome, new twist to a longtime favorite.

Suggested Training

Mental:
Watch Disney’s Tarzan once weekly for the month leading up to Tough Mudder.
Meet up with your tallest friends. Ask them for a high five, as high as they can hold their hand. With a running start, attempt to slap their hand off. If you are the tallest of your friends, perform with a tree.

Physical:
Chin-ups – Complete 15 reps. Rest 2 minutes. Repeat 3 times.
Hand Gripper/Stress Ball Squeezes – Perform 20 reps with each hand, then rest for 2 minutes. Repeat 3 times.
Freestyle Swimming – Swim 50 yards at medium pace. Rest 90 seconds and repeat 4 times.

Tough Mudder Tips

If you grew up on a lake, you’re probably one step ahead on this one. When you get to the edge of the platform, size up the location of the bell; then turn your attention to the handles on the pipe. With the grips in hand, take a short hop off of the platform to generate movement and maximize swing distance. As you approach the end of your swing, pull yourself up on the bar slightly and release, reaching with a raised arm to hit the suspended bell. Gravity will handle the rest.
