Fire In Your Hole

Ominously looming high above select Tough Mudder courses in Mudder Village, this fire-breathing behemoth requires Mudders to scale a net and wood ladder before mustering the courage to plunge down a near-vertical water slide. Once gravity takes control, a five-foot wall of flames and a skim across a muddy water pit await. After being tested by Legionnaires in 2014, Fire in Your Hole is now a Mudder Village attraction for spectators and Mudders alike.

Introduced in 2014 as a Legionnaire-exclusive obstacle, Fire in Your Hole is the tallest obstacle in Tough Mudder history. After years of testing various fire-jumping obstacles like Firewalker and Phoenix, TMHQ was looking for a way to put Mudders through fire, not just over it. After months of testing the size, intensity and trajectory (hint: it got steeper), the obstacle was introduced to rave reviews on courses across the U.S. In 2015, the obstacle will be taken to even more events – and may just get a little taller.

Suggested Training

Mental:
In a safe environment, take two sticks and rub them together vigorously to make fire. Marvel at the miracle of fire.
Find the tallest slide at your local water park and go down it with perfect form 3-5 times.

Physical:
Sit-ups – Have a friend hold your feet. Complete 30 sit-ups, then switch positions. Perform 3 rounds.
Hollow-rocks – Rock for 30 seconds then rest for 30 seconds. Repeat 4 times.

Tough Mudder Tips

Remember the first time you went off the high dive as a kid? Yea, it’s kind of like that. But instead of diving, you’ll be taking a gut-dropping plunge through fire and into a cold, muddy pit of water. Watch your step as you climb up the ladder. Once you get to the top, lie down flat with crossed arms. Let your body drop. Yell your favorite victory chant.
