On Saturday, October 31st and November 1st racers from across the nation will descend upon the small town of Glen Rose just southwest of Ft. Worth to participate in one of Spartan Race’s most challenging races, the Reebok Spartan Beast. This race boasts being an aggressive 12+ mile course with over 30+ obstacles and will held at Rough Creek Lodge.
Many will recall that this is the exact same property where Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield were shot and killed while trying to help a former Marine suffering from severe PTSD in February of 2013. This will be the fourth year the race will be held at Rough Creek Lodge and will be the second time Spartan Racers with help from the Lone Star Spartans will be running in honor of Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Christopher Scott Kyle. The name of Chris Kyle is immediately recognizable from the bestselling autobiography and record setting movie “American Sniper”. But, those closest to him associate the household name with being an avid outdoorsman, a skilled marksman, a SEAL (Sea Air, and Land), devoted father and most importantly an American Hero and Patriot.
Lone Star Spartans & Spartan Race team up to honor hero and patriot, Chris Kyle.
Spartan Race has been truly supportive of an initiative that started with an Obstacle Course Racing team born in the Central Texas area, the Lone Star Spartans. In 2014 the Lone Star Spartans decided to give back by sharing Chris Kyle’s story and fundraising for both the Chris Kyle Foundation and the Guardian for Heroes Foundation. This year the team has officially started its efforts with the Chris Kyle Memorial Run fundraiser alongside Guardians for Heroes and Spartan Race in hopes of making an even larger impact. Along with merchandise sales to include clothing and special commemorative patches, the Lone Star Spartans will have a very special guest amongst their team, Chris Kyle’s brother, Jeff Kyle. No stranger to serving, Jeff, a former Recon Marine, has made a tremendous impact in the Veteran community and has kept his brother’s ideals and mantra alive by serving others. He will be running in honor of his brother on both the 31st of October and November 1st alongside thousands of Spartan racers, all in an effort to pay respects and honor his brother.
There is still time to run with thousands of Spartans and become a part of a family that keeps growing. This is a race for all running abilities; you will never be far from someone willing to help you. Spartan Race is an excellent chance to challenge yourself and remember why this country and this community is amazing. Come run and remember a man that has sacrificed his life in hopes to help others gain strength and perspective on life. Join in the fun on October 31st 2015 for the Reebok Spartan Race in Glen Rose Texas…you will see how Texas really does do things bigger here in the Lone Star State.
