Upper body strength. Hand-eye coordination. Rhythm and focus. You’re gonna need ‘em all to transverse this studded structure. A Legionnaire-exclusive obstacle, Dead Ringer requires Mudders to sideways climb along a series of ascending and descending pegs using heavy-duty rings. Miss the mark and brace for the ground below. Too tough for you the first time around? Try again next course.
Obstacle History
Looking for a way to introduce unique tools and specific techniques to the course, TMHQ came up with Dead Ringer – a giant truss structure (like Funky Monkey) that requires Mudders to use a set of loose rings to climb up and over a series of pegs. Not for the faint of heart, this obstacle will be featured exclusively for Legionnaires in 2015.
Suggested Training
Mental:
Place a TV showing a VHS recording of the 1994 Olympics Gymnastics Finals in front of your pull-up bar. Hold onto the pull-up bar and swing forward and backward for 10 minutes, without breaking.
Physical:
Chin-ups – Complete 15 reps. Rest 2 minutes. Repeat 3 times.
Jumping pull-ups – Repeat 10 times. Rest 90 seconds. Perform 4 rounds.
Curls – Perform 20. Rest for 90 seconds. Repeat 3 times.
Tough Mudder Tips
Get a firm grip on your plastic rings and place them on the first two pegs (typically, you’ll want to choose the first and third peg, to keep your arms shoulder width apart). Step off the platform, generating a small side-to-side swing. Beginning with the right hand, reach forward to the next peg – then move your left hand next to your right. Continue across the obstacle, timing your reaches with your swings.
