  1. Usually when something stupid happens I ask a simple question “Is it me?” Most of the time I come back with, “It might be me…” This time it isn’t me. Truthfully, there has been a meaningful period of time where I haven’t been particularly active on the Spartan Facebook pages. There was a time when I/We were extremely active in the Spartan community, and in the OCR community in general. However, I can remember when it all changed and I remember my frustration when they started moderating content, any and all content. I feel like they have gone too far now, and it is at a point where it is just flat out dumb. Spartan Content Moderation on Facebook - OCRAddict

Well, if you are reading this you are probably a few days or a few weeks from your first or next Ultra Beast. Most likely, you are past the “What the Hell did I sign up for?” phase and moved into the “How do I ensure my survival?” phase. This is perfectly a natural thing. Just remember, we sign death waivers for fun; you have this inside you! When I decided to tackle Killington, it admittedly was on a whim when I committed to it. I was so focused on my hill work and distance running that I did very little thinking about the gear I need, aside from the basics Spartan said was required of me. Let's detail some of those things that will help keep you moving forward, help you hold your pace to meet your time cut offs, and help to make sure that you not medically DNF. 3. Personally, I hate having my activity data distributed across multiple apps. I have Strava, Peloton, Garmin, etc. It seems like every simple integration that we expect either doesn’t exist or isn’t really that simple. I figured a well-known company like Peloton would have a Garmin integration that would allow me to see my Peloton activities in my Garmin Connect app. Well, not so much. I know someone is going to say, “Well, why don’t you just set an activity in your fenix for indoor bike?” The answer, it sucks. It doesn’t get anything right. 5. How to create an event You can create a new calendar entry by selecting the "Create Event" button as shown in the image below Click to Create Once selected, you will be shown the Event creation screen. Fill in the relevant details for your event within the form provided to create your event. Some of the finer elements of this page are discussed below. Basic event creation Timezones You may also notice in the bottom left, you can select a timezone. This is handy if you have an event going on in another part of the world, and you are not currently in that location. You can change this so it shows correctly to the correct people. Using correct timezones Repeating Events You will see you can select "This event repeats" in the checkbox above. This will show you options to repeat an event. As you can see in the image below, this can be quite powerful and you can create these in many different ways. Save time by repeating events Event Locations You can optionally add the location of the event and an album which shows images of the event. When adding the location it will show a handy map of the location in which the event is located. You can also allow people to RSVP the event to say whether or not they are attending. Enter the location to show this on your event Adding a location will show a map to the event location. Maps will be shown of the location if mapping is enabled Similar Events If an event has been done in the past, you can save time by selecting to create a similar event from an old event. Within each calendar event, you will see a button to create a similar event. This will pre-populate the details in event creation, with those same details. Add a similar event
  6. There are 5 different types of clubs that a member can create, if they have permission to do so. These are as follows: Public - Everyone can see these clubs and their posts. Members can participate within that club without the need to join. Open - Everyone can see these clubs and their posts, however you have to join the club in order to participate. Anyone can join. Closed - Everyone can see the club, and can see who is in that club, but only members of that club can participate. Users need to ask a leader of that club in order to join. Private - Thee clubs can only be seen by member of that club. Users would need to be invited by a leader of that club. Read Only - These are read only clubs that can only be added to by the leader of that club. Members cannot add content. Creating Clubs Members can create new clubs on the front end from the clubs page, using the "Start a Club" button provided. Simply fill in the detail required on that page, and save to initially create the club itself. Adding Features Once created, click the club to enter. Initially, you will be presented with just the home tab, which shows a stream of all activity within that club. You now need to select "Manage Club" to add more tabs to the club, such as forums, an images section etc. You will note at the bottom there is an additional "Add Page" setting. This will allow you to add a page fully created by yourself to the club. This may be because you want to add an extra information page or any number of additional uses. Reordering Menus Added on version 4.4 is the ability to re-order club menus. To do this, select the "Manage Club' option within the club itself, then select Reorder Menu. Once selected you will be able to drag and drop menu items into the order you would like them to show. This can be seen in the image below. Club Rules You can add and amend terms from the initial club settings when you set up the club, or later by selecting "Edit Club Settings" from the Manage Club menu. On selection this will give you the opportunity to add some rules, or amend any in which you already have, along with the ability to force people who join the club to acknowledge them. Note, if you change your rules, you can use the selection at the bottom to force people to re-acknowledge. Moderators & Leaders Within clubs, the creator change members of that club to be moderators or leaders. The difference in these is as follows. Leaders - A leader can moderate content and manage members in the club, including making other members leaders. The creator of the club initially, is a leader Moderators - A moderator can moderate content only. They cannot make any structural changes to the group, nor make any other members leader or moderator. You can change a member to a leader or moderator, from the members tab within any club, as shown in the image below.

We’re off to the races at the Tryon International Equestrian Center. This course's well-trodden trails make for solid terrain. But, you'll still have to climb through red clay and traverse rushing creeks if you want to reach the finish line. All finishers receive a T-shirt, medal and professional photos, and every registration comes with access to the Spartan Account to track your tickets, race results, photos, teams, and challenges.
  8. Course obstacles may be hazardous. Savage Race is designed to push your limits, but do not attempt an obstacle that you are uncomfortable with. Race officials will always offer a fitness alternative to any obstacle. Be smart and use your discretion. 9. So you have decided to run with the best of the best, and join the Elite Heat or just run competitively to push yourself in the Age Group division: We're excited to see you stepping up your Spartan game, however, there are some things you need to know: You MUST arrive and race on time for your heat. If you show up late or race at a different time, you will be disqualified from the heat. You will be provided a RED Spartan Headband (with your bib number on it) to differentiate you from the non-competitive Open heat racers. Wear your headband, with the numbers facing forward at all times. You also agree to receive no outside help on obstacles, providing aid such as food or drink, or medical help outside of getting medical advice. If you do you will be DQ'ed from the event however you will be allowed to finish the event (if you are medically cleared) and get your medal and shirt. You will be filmed at multiple obstacles for review for proper burpee completion. You have until the end of race day to review the film. Any competitor who completes 19 burpees or less at Sprint, Super, Beast, or Ultra events or 9 burpees or less at Stadion events at a single obstacle shall have a 10 minute penalty added to their overall finish time. Each time a competitor completes fewer than 30 burpees but more than 19 at Sprint, Super, Beast, and Ultra events and fewer than 15 but more than 9 at Stadion events, a 30-second penalty per burpee missed shall be added to their overall finish time. All timing concerns for the podium must be disputed no more than 15 minutes prior to the award ceremony. It is up to you to count the burpees, it is not the job of the course monitors. Please Note: If you are disqualified, for any reason, you will not receive a finish time and will not be moved to the open heat. No refunds or credits to a future event or collateral will be given. Disqualified races will not count toward your trifecta, or point series ranking.
  10. Don't be that "person", make sure you do your burpees 🙂
